CHOOSE THE LENGTH OF YOUR VEIL

Veils are available in different lengths, and 7 of them were given their own distinctive name. At Poirier there are veils available in different lengths, from 75 cm (elbow-length) all the way up to 4 m (queen-length).

Elbow

• 75 cm • Choose authenticity with a modern twist, because this is what elbow-length veils are all about. This type of veil is an elegant way to have a cover without wearing a full-on bolero or scarf.

Fingertip

• 120 cm • Fingertip-length veils are very popular, because they show the details on the skirt of a bridal gown. Not too short, not too long, but elegant nonetheless!

Waltz

• 210 cm • You take this type of veil off at the reception.

Chapel

• 280 cm • A veil with chapel-length creates the illusion of wearing a train.

Church

• 300 cm • Slightly more spectacular than the chapel length and more practical than the cathedral length.

Cathedral - Queen

• 350 - 400 cm • Opt for a royal entrance with this type of veil.

Materials and embellishments
Circular veil or “mantilla”

At Poirier we also have a circular type of veil available. This veil type has its origins in Spain, and is also known as a “Spanish veil” or “mantilla”.

THE COLOUR OF YOUR WEDDING DRESS + A VEIL = THE PERFECT MATCH!

At Poirier there is always a veil that seamlessly matches your wedding dress. The most popular colour is ivory.

SOFT TULLE - MEDIUM TULLE

When designing a veil, the best type of tulle for the particular veil is considered. Should the veil fall a little narrower, soft tulle is used. Should the veil have a bit more body, or heavier lace or applications, then medium tulle is used.

A VEIL CAN HAVE ONR OR MULTIPLE LAYERS…

Veils come in different varieties, it is up to you to choose a beautiful veil without or with blusher. A blusher is a double-layered veil that covers the face before the vows are said. You can also opt for a mantilla, a Spanish veil.

WITH BLUSHER OR WITHOUT BLUSHER

♥ Single layer (1 layer) = without “blusher”
♥ Double-layered (2 layers) – with a “blusher” that can be worn in front of the face

WHAT ARE THE ORIGINS OF BRIDAL VEILS?
There are many stories about the use of bridal veils. Veils are probably the most ancient bridal accessory that is still available today. Nowadays most bridal veils are white, but Old-Roman brides usually wore red veils, and brides in ancient Greece wore yellow ones. Veil traditions through the ages even went as far as Dutch brides not being able to buy a great wedding dress, but they made sure that they were able to buy a great veil.
The story behind bridal veils

The use of bridal veils has its origins in the history of arranged marriages. Back in the day a veil would prohibit the groom to see his bride before the marriage was final, so a groom would first lay his eyes on his wife when the marriage was finalized. This origin story comes from the Middle-East. In ancient folklore bridal veils are meant to hide away brides from evil spirits. A veil would be lifted when the bride was in the presence of her groom, so he could protect her.

Which veils are on-trend these days?

These days brides wear all sorts of veils, either long or a veil that has a long train, but short and hip bridal veils are being worn as well.
In the photo slider on the right you can see veils that have been worn by British Royals: The Queen Mum, Elizabeth II, Princess Diana, Kate Middleton, and Meghan Markle.
