The Poirier Petticoat Collection
A petticoat needs to be worn under a wedding skirt or dress, so that your bridal garment gets the volume it needs to give it the ideal shape and the perfect silhouette. In the 1940’s the petticoat became the must-have fashion item. These days petticoats are mostly worn under wedding dresses and special evening wear.
The base of every wedding dress

- A wedding dress without a petticoat is like a bride without a groom - Give the wedding dress of your dreams the ideal shape and silhouette with a petticoat, also known as an underskirt. This item is an absolute must-have under a skirt or wedding dress. Back in the day petticoats were meant to make your waist look optically smaller, and your hips larger, but these days a petticoat is meant to make every bride look more elegant and beautiful. For over 35 years Poirier designs its own unique petticoats by making use of the best and latest techniques. In the high-quality petticoats of Poirier seamless fabrics, exclusive patented bone lockers, prefixed metal hoops, and fabrics consisting out of horse hair are being used to give your wedding dress the ideal shape and silhouette. Wedding dresses are being made in all sorts of different forms and styles, and so are matching petticoats. Poirier offers a wide range of different petticoats, from basic up to very luxurious. In the Petticoat Collection of Poirier you cannot only find petticoats for A-line, mermaid dresses or ball gowns, but also for more form-fitting empire and tube wedding dresses and skirts.

An ideal foundation
Petticoats are very important in combination with a wedding dress, because the foundation of a wedding dress should be excellent as well to create an ever-lasting impact. When you choose either the wrong lingerie, underskirt, or hoop skirt, your wedding dress will not have the ideal shape and silhouette. Poirier offers a “seamless” range of petticoats; all products in this range are high-waisted and seamless, which makes them invisible under a wedding dress. Let your wedding expert advise you on the right Poirier petticoat for under the dress of your dreams. Always buy a petticoat in combination with your dress, because a petticoat can make a significant difference when it comes down to the shape and silhouette of your wedding dress.

Petticoat history
Popular since the 16th century
As said before, the petticoat, also known as an “underskirt”, has been a popular fashion item for centuries. In the 16th century people first mention the petticoat. In this century the size and finishing of your petticoat was a direct reflection of your wealth, and in this regard your status in society. A petticoat was also used to accentuate your female curves. In the 16th century the petticoat was combined with a corset, the early version of the current torselett, to create an optically smaller waist.
In the 1940’s the petticoat had a revival because of the fashion designs of Christian Dior, and his New Look. Other designers also came with their version of the petticoat, and these designs ensured the return of this fashion item. Nowadays the petticoat is mostly worn under wedding fashion and special evening wear to give a garment more shape and volume. Unfortunately the impact of a petticoat under a garment is still being underestimated, and because of this a lot of shape and volume goes to waste when it comes down to dresses and skirts. Time to turn things around! Poirier offers you the products you need to do so…
